May 9, 2020

Dear SOLL Little League Families,

We hope this note finds you and your family safe and well at this time. While we have missed having all of you at the ballpark during the past few months, your safety has been our main priority. After working with guidance from Little League International, the State of Kentucky and the approval of the Oldham County Health Department, we are excited to announce the restart of the 2020 season at SOLL Little League.

The resumption of activities will be a phased approach.

  • Phase one, General Guidelines: We anticipate practices beginning the end of May pending Oldham County Health Departments guidance. Only coaches and players will be allowed on the field and the dugouts will not be utilized. During this phase, we are requesting for parents to drop their child off/pick them up and not congregate at the ballpark where possible (tee-ball age children being an exception). Equipment will all be separated at a safe distance along the fence. Other safety guidelines put in place during this time will include:
    • Anyone having a fever or other symptoms of COVID-19 CANNOT attend games or practices at the ballpark.
    • Seniors and those with significant health risks are asked to follow CDC guidelines and not attend events.
    • Hand sanitizer will be placed in each dugout
    • Players and coaches will be allowed to wear PPE items if they choose, as long as the items do not compromise the safety of any and all participants
    • Sharing of equipment (helmets, bats, gloves, etc.) will be prohibited
    • Team-shared equipment (catcher’s gear) will require cleaning and sanitizing of equipment after each use
    • Individual water bottles need to be clearly marked with player names to avoid accidental sharing
    • Sunflower seeds and gum and such items will not be allowed.

  • Phase Two, Playing a Delayed Season: will begin approximately June 22/27 with the resumption of games at Peggy Baker Park. We plan to host a full regular season with 10 games ending in early August. During this phase, several safety guidelines (in addition to the ones listed above) will be put in place at all activities. These include:
    • Limiting of spectators as much as possible to immediate family members
    • Fans are encouraged to wear PPE such as face buffs/surgical masks
    • Bleachers will have limited use or may not be available
    • Parents are strongly encouraged to bring their own chairs to watch games and spread out around the fence lines
  • When using a tent, please restrict it to family members only
  • Game times will be spread out to alleviate the amount of individuals at the ballpark and to allow for sanitizing of dugouts between games. First games to start at 5:30pm, second game at 7:30pm. (5:30/7:15 for T-ball and Rookie) Games will have a strict time limit to minimize overlap of teams and spectators waiting.
  • Umpires may be positioned behind the mound with appropriate social distancing or to otherwise wear face masks where appropriate
  • Shared playing equipment will be prohibited during the Covid-19 crisis.  (If your player is in need of equipment (helmet, glove, bat and face mask if in softball) please let your coach know and we will work with you to provide what we have available on a first come first serve basis)
  • Dugout personnel will be limited to essential team coaches only
  • Sunflower seeds and gum and such items will not be allowed.
  • Parents are encouraged to supply their players with antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizer for cleaning hands between innings.
  • Teams will be required to clean their dugout of all trash and other items after each game, and to wipe down (clean) hard surfaces such as benches, bat racks, etc.
  • Sufficient time for teams to clear out and avoid mixing with other team arriving.
  • Catcher position will be eliminated in the Rookie Division to avoid use of shared catcher's gear
  • Upon arriving at a dugout, teams are to disinfect hard surface areas (benches, bat racks, etc.).
  • Trash cans will be removed from the dugout
  • Team/player handshakes and team/player high fives will not be allowed
  • Post-game handshakes will be eliminated and replaced with players tipping their caps/visors or having teams bow to each other from across the field.
  • SOLL will increase the frequency of cleaning and sanitizing measures in areas of high traffic.
  • Spectators are requested to leave after their games/practices are over and not congregate in the park.
  • Concessions will be open in a limited capacity and will use a two window approach.  1 window to order, 1 window for pick up. We are continuing to work the Oldham County Health Department to determine concession guidelines.

We feel these steps will provide a safe environment where the children of our community can get back to playing ball. For all those who have registered for the 2020 season already, your registration remains valid and no action is needed.

If, however, you no longer wish to participate in the 2020 season, there are three options for you to choose from.

1.    Apply your registration fee to the 2021 season. Your payment will automatically carry over to the 2021 season and no payment will be required next season.

2.    Donate your registration fee to SOLL Little League. There are still many ongoing expenses (utilities, insurance, charter fees, field care, repairs, ect.) to keep the ballpark maintained with or without games. Donations are always greatly appreciated as we are non-profit, 100% volunteer organization that is solely responsible for all our own operations.

3.    Have a full refund issued back to you.

If you choose to no longer play this season, please email Southoldhamlittleleagueky@gmail.com by May 15th notifying us which option you would like to choose. Please include in the email, your name, players name, age and division they play in.

If you still plan on playing, no action is needed on your part and you will be hearing from your coach in 2-3 weeks.

If you have not registered and would like to participate in our programs this summer please email us at the email address above.  We will be offering the following divisions for baseball/softball:

Baseball:

T-Ball (4/5 yr olds)

Rookie (5/6 yr olds)

Machine Pitch (7/8 yr olds)

Minor (9/10 yr olds)

Intermediate (11/12/13 yr olds)

Softball:

Machine Pitch (6/7/8 yr olds)

Thank you for your patience as we worked to put together a plan that can safely get the children of our community back on the field. We look forward to seeing you all at the ballpark in the weeks to come!

Sincerely,

SOLL Little League Board of Directors
